Represented in this part of the holdings are municipal, county, district, provincial and national maps. Of particular interest are the Cummins Rural directory maps for 1918 and 1923/1926 showing ownership, and the Medicine Hat insurance maps for 1955. Also catalogued here are oversized collections such as posters and signs.

SEARCH TIPS

Type a word, phrase, or search expression in one or more of the search boxes. Letter case is not important.

Example: Typing "election poster" retrieves that phrase exactly wherever it is used. Typing "poster" retrieves more results and will include all types of poster.

To do a wildcard search shorten the word with a "*" at the end of a string of letters. Example: " geolog*" will find geology, geological, geologic, etc. Using a shorter string yet, as in "geo*" will return the above terms, PLUS such words as Geographic and geometric.

AND: To narrow a search, use "&" between the search terms. Example: “1902 & Medicine Hat” - will find records in which both words occur.

OR : To broaden a search, use "/" to stand for “or” between the search terms. Example: “Irvine / southern Alberta" will find records in which any one of these terms occurs.

NOT : To search for one term but not another use "!" between the search terms. Example: "City ! sewer" will find City maps and drawings but filter out those that are sewer related.
