The Esplanade is pleased to propose an engaging, school-wide Artist in the Classroom program facilitation for Webster Niblock School. This initiative is designed to provide every class with a meaningful, hands-on creative experience to celebrate the memories and creativity of Webster Niblock students. Through this program, each student will create an individual artwork to take home, while also contributing to a larger collaborative legacy piece. This final artwork will be presented to SD76 Head Office as a lasting representation of the students shared experiences and connection to Webster Niblock School.
All projects will be guided by the central provocations:
“What do you love about Webster Niblock?” or “What is your greatest memory from Webster Niblock?”
The school may select one of the following project formats, each tailored to different artistic approaches while maintaining the same reflective theme:

Duration: 45 minutes per class
Students will create two acrylic painted broadcloth pieces using acrylic paint:
• One strip will be contributed to a large collaborative weaving
• One larger piece will be finished and taken home as an individual artwork
The collaborative strips will be collected and assembled by the artist into a final woven piece, potentially incorporating natural elements such as branches sourced from the school grounds. This completed weaving will serve as the legacy artwork gifted to SD76 Head Office.

Duration:
• 45 minutes per class (with pre-prepared drawings by students led by teachers),or
• 1 hour per class (including planning and sketching time led by artist)
Students will transfer their ideas onto pre-prepared terracotta tiles coated with white slip, carving into the surface to reveal their designs through the sgraffito technique.
• Each student will receive their kiln-fired tile to take home
• The artist will photograph all tiles to create a high-resolution digital collage
The school may print and frame this collage as the official legacy artwork.

Duration: 1 hour per class
Students will explore watercolour techniques, including:
• Oil pastel resist
• Salt textures
• Layering and blending methods
Each student will illustrate their response on a pre-cut watercolour paper heart, then mount it onto patterned paper to create a finished collage piece to take home.
All artworks will be photographed and compiled into a digital collage, which the school can print and frame as the legacy piece.
Pricing includes artist facilitation, materials, preparation, and post-production of the collaborative legacy artwork.
