Students will spend the morning with Julie exploring the Esplanade and doing various activities in the Discovery Centre. The afternoon may include a walk to TREX Space to spend the afternoon 12:00 - 2:00 with Julie, Genevieve & Sierra where they may explore the exhibition on display, do art activities and possibly explore the downtown area. Students must bring a lunch and snacks.
With our unique PD Day offering, children get the benefit of multiple community based learning resources in one program. In the morning, children will explore the exhibitions of the Esplanade and take part in play-based projects where they can exercise their imaginations, while developing their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. The afternoon may include a walk with the children a block away to the TREX Space where they have the opportunity to see the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program in action and possibly explore the downtown area, weather dependant.
While our projects and spaces make this program special, our arts instructor Julie Downey-Hogland, will ensure that each child has a positive experience. Equipped with a post-secondary education in both social work and fine art, she is passionate about inspiring children to achieve their full potential and to have fun while doing it! Julie has extensive experience working with children and youth of all ages and abilities. She has been creating a warm and inclusive learning space as an arts instructor at the Esplanade since June 2018 and we are very lucky to have her!
