Celebrating with culture has never been such a smashing good time!

Join your friends from the Esplanade, Medicine Hat Public Library and Medalta from 1 to 3:30 PM for this free, all ages, outdoor Halloween event.

Enjoy pumpkin painting outside of the library, then head across the street to the Esplanade terrace where you can smash a pumpkin onto the drop zone below! The fun doesn’t stop there,  don’t just paint them and smash them, create them the Medalta way -- out of clay!

There will be lots to do, but what to see? In case smashing pumpkins weren’t exciting enough, we thought we’d throw a chainsaw into the mix – Chainsaw Spirit that is!! Watch as artist Marina Cole uses her chainsaw and imagination to bring wood back to life!

What Halloween event would be complete without something tasty? Get your fill at Lara’s Authentic Cuisine food truck then trick-or-treat for your desert at the historic Duggan House!

Stay tuned to our social media channels, the pumpkins may still have a little growing to do and so too may our event.

Important Note:

• Attendance, including all activities i.e.. pumpkin painting, smashing and creating in clay, as well as Duggan House trick-or-treat is free of charge.

• This event will adhere to any Alberta Health Services Protocols.

• This event is outside and as such is weather dependent.

• The pumpkins at this event were are coming from a failed crop, impacted by frost. None of the pumpkins smashed at this event will be painted, so they can be used for livestock feed. The Seven Person’s 4-H Club, Goat Division will be collecting all of the smashed and left over pumpkins for tasty goat treats!

• Free pumpkins for painting and smashing will be available on site. First come first serve (200 pumpkins only). Participants are also invited to bring their own cut pumpkins from home. Pumpkins must not contain any additions (ex: paint, glitter, pins, or any glued on craft material, etc.). Only medium to small sized pumpkins brought from home may be dropped and must be released from the designated drop area, under supervision of program facilitators.
